After one year we thought it would be good for an update. So here we go, a look at 2011 in review...

Riley...or should I say Elder Layton left on a mission

He is currently working hard sharing the gospel in Dallas Texas.

Ha ha, this was a little mishap. Laura did a wisdom tooth study and was enjoying the only meal she could eat at the time. In the car laura was eating a smoothie at a stop sign...until we started moving.

On our trip down to AZ we found this on our walk through the desert. Alas, more proof you should not cross a flooded wash.

Hardware Ranch. About 45 minutes away from Logan, this cool little plain is the safe haven for hundreds of elk. Lots and lots of food is left out in this field to keep the elk from moving further west into Cache Valley. During the winter they offer sleigh rides through the elk.

These elk are tagged and monitored by the forest service to track from where the elk are coming from. These elk may come from Idaho, Wyoming, even Montana to visit this feeding ground. After which, one by one, they disappear going their separate ways.

Our visit to BYUI, we arrived just in time to see the "largest dodgeball game in the world". Too much cheating to be considered a real dodgeball game in my opinion, but then again how do you really ref a game like this?

You can not cook unless you have an apron on, atleast thats how others see it.

Winter Car Wash

Here was our car washing experience. Let me preface by saying the temperature was 0 degrees F. Laura tried to talk sense in to me, but my want for a clean car won.
This should have been my first clue...

Now pride is on the line... a challenge, if you will.

Step 1: Pre-soak.

(This should have been my second clue that this would be a mistake... pre-soak should not freeze to car...)

Step 2: Scrub with soap brush

(This should have been clue #3... Scrub brush soap should not freeze to the car.)

Step 3: Wax car.
(I have to add my reasoning here, so I don't look like a complete idiot. I figured we could blow off, or rather, chip off, the excess bubbles with the wax sprayer but we had never been to this car wash before and didn't realize how fancy and - multi - colored their wax is.)

Step 4: Cut my losses, and retreat with a slushy colored car, and always remember Laura is rarely wrong.

All in all it was a very funny experience and we laughed the whole night, especially when we took our bubble-gum machine to Smiths. While checking out, we overheard a group of guys talking to the clerk: "there is this crazy car outside covered in sherbet and this dumb guy (points at sheepish looking friend) decided he'd try it. We tried to tell him not to eat things where you don't know where they've been..."

I wonder how wax tastes...

Blizzard December 2010

The storm started almost as a rumor. No one believed it would actually happen. The University started to send messages out to all their staff that it would close promptly at 2:30 so people could get home before the blizzard rolled in at the 3:00pm predicted time. At 2:30 it was overcast but pretty bright outside. 3:05 wind picked up and snow started to fall, 3:10 complete white out conditions. Laura and I got all geared up to check out what a "Blizzard" actually is. Well I now know why they call it a 'white out'. It was awesome! Here are some pictures of the aftermath.

I put on everything I could find, including a pair of swimming goggles to make it easier to see. Funny thing, they kept fogging up.

What an eerie feeling! It was like some Armageddon experience.

Laura's brother Andy made this cotume! It was a tractor completely out of cardboard and the bucket out front was the candy basket. What a genius, and what a cute kid!

Geocaching adventure

This was Laura's first time going geocacheing so I made her use the decifer to figure out the clue.

This was very tricky and very clever to make the cache look like a light switch. Laura was the first to find it though. This one was in the parking lot of our apartments!

Our next cache went wrong...horribly wrong. First off, geocacheing in the dark is never a good idea for a couple of reasons. Reason #1The caches are very hard to find. After searching for this one we finally had to give up. Reason #2 It is hard to foresee natural barriers, like bushes, trees, canals...etc. This stagnant canal imitates a dry river bed very well.

We have had a couple cake boxes sitting in our cupboard for almost a year now. So I decided I would take a crack at it. Well, they turned out ok, the frosting was gross but the cake was ok. They also came with these little transformer decals, well ended up looking terrible, and there is no way we would eat it all so Laura came up with this "prank" if you will.

Apparently we should have added in a "ha ha" or a "j/k" because it really got passed on! We tried to back track the cake, as of right now, we don't know how far it went.

This is Laura Kicking my butt at the Scooter Races at our Aggie Day- our outdoorday at Utah State where we just walked around doing fair games and got tons of free stuff. (including four water bottles, free burgers, a ton of fruit, and a frisbee.) This is me bouncing down the blow-up slide the Institute of Religions provided.

Temple Trip

This is our temple trip with President Wilcox. Left to right, President Brad Wilcox, April Kimball, John Kimball, Laura Layton, Justin Layton, Daniel Crossen, and Jessi Crossen. We met up at the Mount Timpanogos temple and had an unforgettable session. What a nice reminder of mission days. It was fun thinking of one of the sayings in our mission: "Hoy, en veinte Anos, y para siempre jamas" -"Today, in twenty years, and forever more". As President wilcox was being set apart as a mission president Jeffrey R. Holland gave him these prophetic words, he told him that his success as a mission president would not necessarily be visible through numbers of converts but through the missionaries themselves and that he could see this through who they are 'today, in twenty years, and forever more'. The other two guys in picture are the guys I went through the MTC with, it was really awesome to see these words come to play as now we are off and married and headed on to our future careers (well at least thinking about them...I'm still not sure what mine will be...). Thank you President Wilcox for who you are and how you have helped us become who we are today!

Well, Laura and I are here at Utah State and loving life. Our days consist of school, school, and school. Laura just got a job and before too long I'll have a job too. It is snowing like crazy, this picture obviously was taken in the fall, now everything is covered in snow.
